Pen-Yuan Hsing conducts meta-research ("research on research") at the University of Bristol, as part of projects using qualitative methods to study research culture and open research policy and practice.
Pen hopes for values-driven open research to become the norm, and has contributed to the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, and served on an advisory panel for NASA's Transform to Open Science (TOPS) mission. Pen has also been doing public engagement with science for 15+ years, and co-founded a citizen science wildlife monitoring network called MammalWeb (https://www.MammalWeb.org/) during their biology PhD.
