Shomari Lewis-Wilson (he/him)

Senior Manager, Research Culture & Communities at Wellcome

Shomari is the Senior Manager of Wellcome's Research Culture & Communities team, focusing on nurturing thriving, equitable, diverse and supportive research environments and careers through strategic design and change tools. 

With over five years in research funding, he has facilitated numerous research grants and implemented changes to promote equity within Wellcome's culture. As a critical Wellcome EDI executive committee member, he has advanced various equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.

His notable achievements include supporting Wellcome's first policy for grant-holders with disabilities, its first EDI policy, delivering the Institutional Fund for Research Culture, and introducing the Accelerator Awards, Wellcome's first targeted funding stream for researchers from Black, Bangladeshi, or Pakistani backgrounds.

Shomari champions networks as a founding member and former Chair of the Wellcome Race Equity Network (WREN), organising events on Afrofuturism, Antiracism, and Black Joy during Black History & Futures Month. He co-founded the New Fables Collective to highlight racialised thought leadership.

Rooted in his British Caribbean upbringing, Shomari values love, hard work, and community. In his personal life, he enjoys video gaming and Black science fiction.
