Why we've signed the Manifesto

"Cornwall is a creative county that needs to be highly connected, both economically and socially. As a multi-arts institution Falmouth University focuses on the creative industries and plays a vital role in creating the intellectual capital and, through our new Academy for Innovation & Research, will be working with industry to commercialise it. Public engagement is a strategic commitment for Falmouth University as our responsibility is to help drive Cornwall's continuing development as a creative and connected county. This will benefit our students, prospective students and the different communities we engage with in Cornwall, the wider South West, nationally and internationally. I see this as a cornerstone of Falmouth University's strategic development over the next ten years and am delighted to demonstrate this commitment by signing the Manifesto for Public Engagement."

Professor Anne Carlisle, Vice-Chancellor & CEO

Our approach to public engagement

  • Live Locally: Sell Globally: Students were inspired to create budding business ideas by a visit of local design entrepreneurs
  • Truro City of Lights: Second year BA(Hons) Contemporary Crafts students participated in the Truro City of Lights procession. Students worked with artists to produce four large lanterns to be included in the procession
  • Penryn Pathways: An inter-generational dance with residents and students which culminated in a celebration of community performance at UFC's new £19 million performance centre
  • Source FM: community radio for Falmouth and Penryn
  • Audience in the Community: This project by first year BA(Hons) Photography students involved working within the community around Penryn and Falmouth town and coastal areas, making images about these spaces. The final works created were then returned to the community as a series of exhibitions
  • Memory matters charity evening: As part of the BA(Hons) Broadcasting course, 2nd year students at raised money for the Alzheimer's Society by organising a 'Memories Matter' event
