NCCPE worked with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to provide support for 25 funded projects that enabled members of the public to actively contribute to research and innovation projects that affect their lives; they are all driven by a geographically defined community’s need, which can be addressed by research and innovation in order to shape and generate new learning.

Running from 2017-2019, the UKRI Strategic Support to Expedite Embedding Public Engagement with Research (SEE-PER) call invited HEIs and research institutes to embed support for excellent public engagement with research (PER) within their policies and practices.

Funded by NERC and coordinated by NCCPE, Engaging Environments explored a consortia approach to engaging the public with environmental science issues.

The Catalyst Seed Fund (CSF) programme saw RCUK building on the momentum generated from the Beacons for Public Engagement and the Catalyst projects to support a new cohort of HEIs: the Catalyst Seed Funds (CSFs). The CSFs were initially funded by RCUK for a year-long project, supported by the NCCPE, to embed a culture of public engagement with research into their institutions. 

Eight universities were funded to establish support for public engagement with research, drawing on the lessons learnt from the Beacons.

NCCPE worked with the Catalyst projects between 2012 and 2015 to share learning, and build capacity for engagement. 

The Beacons for Public Engagement initiative aimed to inspire a culture change in how universities engage with the public.
