
Training for Evaluating Public Engagement
This interactive training course will explore how to develop strategic evaluation plans, the different techniques you can use, and what your findings can tell you and your organisation or funder. With an emphasis on how to conduct evaluation, join us for a programme of practical activities and discussion to demystify evaluation.
Course Details
Fees:
£1600 for online / £POA for in-person delivery
This course is aimed at:
- Those who are embarking on or who are already working within engaged research projects and programmes. It assumes little to no experience of evaluating public engagement activities.
- Academics and researchers at all levels with an interest in developing their engagement practice especially with communities (including Early Career Researchers and PhD Students)
- Professional Services staff in roles which support engaged researchers (including those with roles in Knowledge Exchange and Impact as well as other Public Engagement Professional roles)
- Groups of 10-20 people from the same organisation. Unfortunately, we cannot offer individual places on this course
This course will enable you to:
- Understand the value and uses of evaluation in public engagement, for example to improve practice; to share learning and to report impact
- Gain familiarity with the evaluation process, understand what activities can be used for evaluation and the importance of advance planning for evaluation
- Begin to explore the issues and challenges of evaluating public engagement
- Learn how to develop an evaluation plan

Session Format
Our sessions aim to be participatory and we invite everyone to join in whatever way feels comfortable, so that they can share in the discussions and gain the most from the experience.
Both in-person and online sessions last 2.5 hours (including a breaks of 10 minutes), and involve a blend of presented material covering the WHY, WHAT, HOW and WHEN of evaluation alongside case studies, discussion and reflection on current practice and challenges as well as consideration of tools and templates to shape evaluation.
In-Person Training
If you prefer your training to be delivered face-to-face, we allocate a tutor from our team of experienced practitioners to travel to your premises. On receipt of your booking form, we will send you a quote for delivery within 7 days, based on the information you have provided.
You can book single or multiple courses and we will aim to schedule the delivery of these in as cost effective and efficient way as we can. We cannot guarantee to deliver two or more courses on a single day.
Online Training
You may find it easier for those with a busy schedule to book training delivered online.
We use Zoom to deliver these sessions and a variety of digital tools such as break-out rooms, whiteboards and Padlets to ensure the session is interactive and engaging.
All of our materials are accessible and we encourage our participants to communicate any access requirements to ensure that their training experience is as inclusive as possible.
